PRODUCT MANAGEMENT &
GO-TO-MARKET STRATEGY

I work at the intersection

of product and marketing strategy

HELLO

I'm Eric.

I’m a principal product manager and go-to-market strategist; in short, I ensure products meet customer needs and customers meet needed products. I have 20+ years of experience operating in this strategic intersection, leading the innovation, development, delivery, and launch of valued B2B tools, products, services, and solutions.

I am an astute qualitative and quantitative analyst with a strong foundation in user research, insight generation, and data visualization. I am an ingenious storyteller with a knack for simplifying complex concepts into relatable narratives that amplify the value and benefits of enterprise products. And I am a veteran of collaboration within matrix environments and geographically dispersed organizations with a track record of successful solution launches, team leadership, and peer mentoring.

My work spans the entirety of product innovation

[ from idea to introduction ]

CURIOUS INTELLECTUAL

I am a lifelong learner.

Intellectual curiosity is my superpower; I thrive on interdisciplinary and cross-contextual thinking and the challenge of connecting seemingly unrelated ideas, disciplines, and technology to foster innovative solutions. It is a valuable asset within product strategy, which is inherently progressive and thus requires an eagerness to challenge existing beliefs or assumptions, as well as a sense of wonder and a drive to explore unfamiliar ideas and divergent perspectives.

A willingness to readily admit my ignorance and embrace it as a catalyst for growth and innovation enables me to gain a deeper understanding of customer needs, pain points, and emerging trends, which in turn yields a better product narrative and roadmap.

I can't play the guitar or piano very well, so don't expect
any musical entertainment from me at company picnics.
Note the glasses and serious gaze.
It's an overt attempt to look "smart and trustworthy".
DISCERNING ANALYST

I transform info into insight.

I define insight as a resonating change in understanding. Within product management, insights can spur action such as feature prioritization or roadmap changes. As a go-to-market tactic, insights can foster credibility in the customer’s mind and cultivate trust in a brand. Hence why they are so coveted by organizations: insights are the basis for competitive advantage.

I derive insights via customer research, market assessments, and data analysis. I also use systems thinking to assess the entirety of a product’s user experience and buyer journey. I am highly proficient in analytics and visualization with a strong foundation in SQL, ETL processes, event streaming, and database integration (because getting access to the right data is often the first step).

INGENIOUS STORYTELLER

I create compelling narratives.

Our brains are not ideally set up to consume logic; they prefer digesting stories. Thus insights are more readily accepted when wrapped in a story.

But if you want the insight to be remarkable and the story to be compelling, then both need to be framed by a narrative—a lens through which to perceive the world, industry, or problem. Narrative is the connective tissue for your stories; the unifying thread to weave through your product’s vision, roadmap, development plan and GTM content.

For over two decades, I’ve been synthesizing insights and ideas into succinct, relatable stories, models, and frameworks to convey the value of enterprise products. I excel at crafting value propositions, product positioning, and launch materials that connect products to big-picture industry topics.

I also enjoy telling really bad dad jokes.

I believe the gap between strategy and execution is best filled via collaboration

STRATEGIC POLYMATH

I'm cross functional.

A strategy that can’t be implemented or executed is futile. And a strategy that is feasible but lacks buy-in across an organization is almost as meaningless.

I’m a diplomatic negotiator of competing priorities, differing KPIs, and misaligned OKRs, with substantial experience collaborating across functions within a matrix environment and geographically dispersed organization.

Advancing a product usually requires commitment and support from numerous functional areas. Sometimes that’s achieved by working bottom up to gain consensus and other times it involves getting sponsorship from the top to gain credibility. But most often, it requires doing both.

This is my "I'm listening" face.
Please don't find it off-putting; it's the only one I've got.

FIELD VETERAN

I've worked remote for 15+ years.

When I first started working out of my basement full-time I assumed it would be a hindrance or barrier to consistent, high-quality work. But eventually, I came to realize it was the opposite—working from home was an advantage I had over my corporate office-based peers. And over the years I maximized that benefit by building out a top-notch workspace, custom configured to my preferred workflow.

I work best with organizations that have embraced geographically dispersed teams to access the best available talent and recognize how productive, collaborative, and efficient a remote employee—such as myself—can be.

Yep. I'm putting the wife and kids on display in a blatant appeal to your emotions.
DEDICATED FAMILY GUY

I’ve got great support.

My kids grew up with “Dad working in the basement” and therefore are accustomed to the rules and protocols needed to keep family life from interrupting my normal office hours. Thus I’ve never had excessive background noise during a teleconference or an unexpected visit during a Teams video meeting. Candidly, work life balance is easier when based out of your home. The lack of commute and ability to address minor house-related matters without using PTO means my employer gets more of my time rather than less.
